Universal Studios Orlando Resort in Florida has reopened to the public on Friday, June 5, 2020, after closing in response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
Universal is the first of Orlando’s major attractions to reopen after closing in March, with new social distancing protocols, limits on capacity and updated health and safety requirements.
In this welcome back video, Universal summarizes the changes and invites guests back to the parks:
When Did the Universal Studios Parks Reopen?
Universal reopened its three Orlando theme parks on Friday, June 5, 2020.
- Universal Studios Florida - 9 a.m.
- Islands of Adventure - 9 a.m.
- Volcano Bay - 10 a.m.
Safety Measures
According to a CNN report, a detailed plan had to be approved by authorities before the parks could be reopened.
"Before it could reopen, Universal had to submit a detailed plan to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force for approval. After the task force's OK, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed off." — CNN
Visit the official Universal Safety Guidelines Website for more details.
Some of the guidelines are:
- Face masks: Everyone is required to wear a face covering during their visit. If you forget to bring a mask, the park has them for sale.
- Temperature checks: Required upon arrival, and guests with a temperature of 100.4F (38C) degrees or greater will not be admitted.
- Social distancing: Practice social distancing and keep at least 6 feet (2 meters) between your travel party and others.
- Hand sanitizers: At select locations including prior to boarding ride vehicles, guests will be required to use hand sanitizer.
This is what one of the visitors interviewed by CNN had to say:
"I felt that they really had a good handle on safety. I'm a physician, so I keep up on what's happening in the world. And in terms of preventative measures, I thought Universal was ahead of the curve, so I felt very safe bringing my family here." — Dr. Channing Willoughby
Use the Universal App
Universal is also recommending using its Official Universal Orlando Resort App to reduce the interactions with team members and contact with surfaces. With the app you can:
- Place Mobile Food & Drink Orders from select restaurants
- Get a Virtual Line return time
- Purchase tickets in the app and scan at the turnstile
- Set up TapTu Pay at Volcano Bay
